Commissions
To initiate a commission, simply go to my Contact page and describe what you have in mind, including details about the person or place you wish to honor. Be sure to also forward a few photos of the books you want to use. I’ll get back to you with some preliminary ideas, along with an estimate. The cost of a BiblioQuilt is based on the size of the finished piece—generally $400 per square foot. You can get a feel for my prices under Current Work.
The fun begins once the contract is signed. We’ll work on the piece together, gathering input (and more books) from family members, friends, faculty, staff, patrons, donors, and/or community stakeholders who want to contribute to the project. Your BiblioQuilt should reflect their vision and values as well. The final design can be based on whatever quilt style the group settles on—traditional or contemporary. We can even collaborate on a figurative design based on a portrait of a loved one, famous books/writers, local history, school/family crests, etc.
Again, the material will come from the books you provide (in part). If desired, I can incorporate other ephemera that may be meaningful to you and your team: photos, newspaper clippings, maps, letters, postcards, etc. When completed, you’ll have the option of ordering signed, limited-edition prints or customized posters of your BiblioQuilt that can be used as memorial gifts, acknowledgements, or incentives for family gatherings, fundraising campaigns, recognition events, or anniversary celebrations.
My goal is to create an original work-of-art that evokes warm memories for everyone involved. The books you supply may be damaged, deaccessioned or obsolete, but they should never be forgotten.
